There was a lot of uncertainty going into this week, but most Seattle Seahawks’ fans were confident in the fact that Seattle would take care of business in Atlanta against the Falcons. However, many of us did question if the dominant form of the Seahawks would show up, or if it would be the version that we have seen for the past couple of weeks, which, while still good, is not nearly the same.
Many of us also looked towards the matchup between the Carolina Panthers and the San Francisco 49ers. A Carolina victory over San Francisco would be a huge advantage for Seattle, who beat the Panthers in Carolina in week one. Both teams have been red hot, but I think that most people were a bit surprised by how well the Panthers have been performing. Would the Panthers actually be able to beat the 49ers in San Francisco? Despite entering the game with a four game winning streak, the Panthers also were aided by the leagues easiest schedule thus so far. This was their chance to prove that they were the real deal.
Any uncertainty about how Seattle would perform in Atlanta faded away rather quickly. Seattle completely dominated the Falcons; Russell Wilson was only sacked once, and the Seahawks’ defense completely shut down the run, and really, the Falcons’ offense altogether. This time the Seahawks made sure not to play down to their opponent’s level – succeeding in areas that have been a recent struggle. Also, for anyone who was into the Roddy White and Richard Sherman drama, well, White was nowhere to be found this game.
Victory was sweet, and it appeared that our Seahawks were back on track! It was time for us to turn our attentions towards the Carolina Panthers, who did not disappoint! Colin Kaepernick was simply just bad against the Panthers’ defense, and the performance was very reminiscent of watching Kaepernick take on the Seahawks. Neither offense was able to do very much damage, but it was Cam Newton and the Panthers that were able to make the plays that they needed in order to win the game, 10 – 9. If you didn’t know about the Panthers’ defense being legit before, then you definitely do now.
The Panthers victory gives Seattle fans sweet satisfaction. For anyone who knows a 49ers’ fan, or visits basically any type of NFL message board, then you will recall every 49ers’ troll giving Seattle crap for almost losing to the Panthers in week one. Here we are in week ten, and the red hot 49ers lost to that very team in their own house! I actually had a friend message me about how much better Kaepernick was than Wilson after that game… I haven’t heard from him for quite some time now. More importantly, the victory gives Seattle some major breathing room in the NFC West!
This has been a crazy week of football for Seattle, but there is still room for it to get even crazier. The Dallas Cowboys take on the New Orleans Saints in just a few minutes! I don’t have to tell you how beneficial a Saints loss would be for the Seahawks…
